When you go to build a track piece, you have to select it and tune it (add pitch, roll, lift hill, brakes) than you have to click a build button. You can do a lot of stuff to make cool/realistic coasters. When in coaster builder, it has an interface similar to the RCT games. I've played a couple hours of it, there are a lot of things I really like about this game and the future looks bright, but it's kind of hard to build stuff right now. Like I said above, there is only one mode right now, sandbox, and it has all the business stuff in it so you can run out of money. I saw this today and bought it in a heartbeat, and I'm very glad I did because this game has a grand vision for its future.
